About Your Role as an In-House Substitute
This is a hands-on position with day-to-day duties that include delivering lesson plans prepared by the classroom teacher, maintaining a positive and productive learning environment, and ensuring classroom routines run smoothly. The substitute teacher will provide instruction across K-8 grade levels as needed, manage student behavior, and support a safe and respectful classroom atmosphere. The role also includes adapting to a variety of subjects, following established school procedures, and documenting and reporting any issues or notable student progress for the returning teacher.

Compensation: $22.89 - $28.04 per hour
*Bromley recognizes up to 11 years of relevant experience

Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership

  • Fill in as necessary for teachers and paraprofessionals to ensure a consistent learning environment for students.
  • Implement social-emotional learning in alignment with the school's program and integrate throughout the instructional day.
  • Deliver engaging and interactive lessons prepared by the teacher and tailored to meet the diverse needs of learners.
  • Provide clear directions and maintain established classroom routines.
  • Adapt to a variety of grade levels (K-8) and subject areas as needed.
  • Supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, or other experiential activities as indicated in the teacher-provided lesson plan.
  • Support student engagement and encourage participation in learning activities.
Student Management
  • Monitor and assess student performance through observation and formal assessments, providing constructive feedback to encourage academic growth, as directed by the teacher's lesson plans.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution among students and monitor their social and emotional well-being, seeking additional support when necessary.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and dynamic classroom environment that is conducive to learning and fosters a love for education.
  • Effectively manage student behavior, enforce school rules and policies, and address student issues related to health, conduct, and progress.
Administrative & Community Relations
  • Follow established school procedures, complete attendance records, and provide written notes or reports on classroom activities and concerns.
  • Utilize school-provided materials and technology as direct to support classroom instruction.
  • Document and report any issues, concerns, or notable student progress to the appropriate teacher or administrator.
  • Assist the office with projects or tasks that provide workload relief.
Assist with other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Needed to be Successful

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Associate's degree is preferred.
  • A valid Colorado state substitute authorization, or a transferable substitute authorization from another state, is required. A 3-5 year substitute authorization is preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience as a substitute teacher is preferred.
Specialized Skills
  • Basic knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of teaching effects, and can instruct K-8 students.
  • Basic knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar, and can instruct K-8 students.
  • Basic knowledge of arithmetic and can instruct K-8 students.
  • Basic knowledge of area of teaching and the ability to communicate that knowledge, and can manage a classroom of students aged K-8.
  • Intermediate knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; different learning styles; and can instruct K-8 students.
  • Knowledge of Common Core standards.
