About Your Role as a Science Teacher (8th Grade)
This is a hands-on, full-time position with day-to-day duties that include providing comprehensive instructional delivery and curriculum development, focusing on engaging science lessons and adapting instruction to meet diverse needs. The role includes designing assessments, supporting student centered learning, student progress, and maintaining a positive classroom environment. Effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders are essential, along with managing classroom resources and participating in professional development, such as The Leader in Me initiative.
Shift Hours: M-F, 7:30AM to 4PM (weekends as needed)
Compensation: $58,003 - $79,685
Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities:
Classroom Environment & Student Engagement
- Prepare materials and set up classrooms for effective learning experiences.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive student records in compliance with legal and school policies.
- Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
- Build a positive classroom community and culture containing structures to support student-centered collaborative learning, high expectations, and accountability.
- Deliver engaging science lessons through lectures, discussions, and hands-on demonstrations.
- Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
- Develop course objectives and outlines in alignment with state and school curriculum standards.
- Monitors student progress toward lesson objectives and provides support to move students toward or beyond objectives.
- Will be fully committed to the implementation of the Leader in Me program and 7 Habits.
- Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities. This may include overnight field trips.
- Engage in school and community events as directed.
- Design, administer, and evaluate tests and assignments to monitor student progress.
- Observe and assess students' academic performance, behavior, social development, and physical well-being.
- Provide additional support to students through tutoring and remedial programs.
- Monitor student progress toward lesson objectives. Provides support to move students toward or beyond objectives.
- Clearly communicate lesson objectives and expectations to students.
- Communicate in a proactive and positive manner with all stakeholders.
- Confers with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students’ behavioral and academic needs.
- Fully participate in building directed professional learning, committees, and staff meetings, collaborate with colleagues and seek continuous improvement.
- Manage classroom resources by selecting, storing, ordering, and inventorying equipment and supplies, including proper student usage.
- Assist with other duties as assigned
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, or related field required.
- A valid 6-12 Colorado state teaching license with an endorsement in Science required.
- Master’s degree or higher preferred.
- Alternative licensure candidates will be considered.
- 1 + semester of student teaching at a middle school in the science department preferred.
- 1 + years of teaching experience preferred.
- Advanced understanding of educational theories, teaching strategies, and instructional methods tailored for students in 6th- 8th grade.
- Advanced knowledge in child psychology and the developmental stages—physical, social, and cognitive.
- Intermediate skills with technology including Google Suite and online teaching experience.
- Intermediate familiarity with Chromebooks and ability to manage student use with a 1:1 technology program.
- Advanced skills in Understanding By Design and familiarity with the Colorado 2020 Academic Standards to aid in course development.
- Intermediate knowledge of state and national curriculum standards, with the ability to align classroom activities to these benchmarks effectively.
- Advanced ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, guardians, colleagues, and administrators, both orally and in writing.
- Advanced ability to assess student learning, providing constructive feedback, and adjusting instruction based on performance data.
