The Dean of Students is a key member of the school leadership team responsible for fostering a positive, safe, and structured learning environment for all students. This position supports the developed behavior systems and enforces expectations.

The Dean of Students is essential in the continuous improvement of school-wide culture systems, including student behavior expectations, restorative practices, discipline processes, and character education. The Dean of Students partners closely with teachers, families, counselors, and administrators to ensure consistent expectations, proactive supports, and responsive interventions that align with the school’s mission and values.

Compensation: $65,127 - $81,036 (Depending on experience)
Contract Days: 190, which includes 5 additional workdays in the school year, paid at the per diem rate.
Work Schedule: In-person, Monday - Friday; Full-Time
(May fluctuate based on evening and weekend school functions, meetings, and events.)

 Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities

School Culture and Climate Leadership
  • Support the development and implementation of school-wide behavior systems and expectations,
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the campus to proactively support student behavior and positive culture.
  • Model and reinforce high expectations for student conduct aligned to the school's mission and character values.
  • Analyze discipline data to identify trends and implement responsive action plans.
  • Support school-wide character education initiatives and student recognition systems.
Student Management and Discipline
  • Oversee student discipline processes to ensure consistency, fairness, and alignment with school policy.
  •  Assist AP's with investigations related to student conduct concerns and communicate findings appropriately.
  • Implement restorative practices and progressive discipline strategies when appropriate.
  • Partner with counselors and support staff to design and monitor behavior intervention plans.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of behavior incidents and disciplinary actions.
Family and Community Engagement
  • Communicate proactively and professionally with families regarding student behavior and culture expectations and attendance.
  • Facilitate parent meetings related to discipline and student conduct when necessary.
  • Support family education efforts related to school culture and behavior systems.
Supervision and Operations
  • Supervise student arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and other transitions to ensure safety and structure.
  • Support the implementation of safety procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Collaborate with administration on supervision plans and campus safety initiatives.
  • Collaborate and support student events such as spirit week.
Assist with other duties as assigned.

 Education and Experience Needed to be Successful:
  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Counseling, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of successful classroom experience in a K-8 education required.
  • Prior leadership experience (Dean Assistant Principal, Instructional Coach, or similar role) preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing school-wide culture or PBIS systems preferred.
  Specialized Skills:
  • Advanced knowledge of positive behavior systems, restorative practices, and student development.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively with students, staff, families, and community members.
  • Advanced conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.
  • Intermediate ability to analyze data and implement improvement strategies.
  • Advanced ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement.
  • Intermediate ability to lead professional development and coach adults.
  • Advance organizational and time management skills.
