Bromley East Charter School is seeking a strategic and collaborative Executive Director to provide overall leadership and management of the school. This individual will be responsible for ensuring strong academic performance, operational excellence, financial stewardship, and a positive school culture that supports student success.

The Executive Director partners closely with the Board of Directors and school leadership team to guide the school’s strategic direction and ensure Bromley East continues to serve students and families with excellence.

Compensation: $130,000 to $190,000 (Depending on experience)

 Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities

Lead and Maintain Bromley East Charter School in creating a safe and academically rigorous environment while promoting a positive reputation in the community. 

Leading Bromley East

  • Lead and manage the school and administration team by overseeing school development, operations, finance, personnel, educational standards, and student achievement, and supportive and positive school culture. Possess thorough knowledge of curriculum and instruction, school finance, and the importance of a strong community infrastructure.
  • Model and maintain an unyielding commitment to students and student learning at all times.
  • Maintain and complete required annual compliance as outlined by state, school authorizer, and board requirements.
  • Maintain alignment between all programs and the overall vision, mission, and core values of BECS. Maintain expectations prescribed by the school’s global end goals.

Developing leaders/Academic Leadership and Management

  • Foster development, innovation, and improvement  of curriculum and instruction, staff development, and program management and development. 
  • Leads efforts to improve learning competencies and student achievements as related to state testing requirements.
  • Lead, coach, and develop administration and staff in all aspects to ensure alignment with school-wide goals through learning, development, and evaluation; support faculty development, coaching, and evaluation to promote effective teaching and learning
  • Provide strategic oversight of the school’s academic programs to ensure high-quality instruction and student achievement.Monitor curriculum implementation, assessment data, and instructional practices to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure academic programs meet state standards, accreditation requirements, and the school’s mission and goals; maintain a rating above any improvement status and drive continuous academic growth for all students.
  • Sensitivity, commitment, and responsiveness to the educational needs and concerns of diverse multilingual, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to ensure full and accelerated development of all students. 

Responsibly Manage Finances and Operational Oversight

  • Ensure accurate financial management and oversight for BECS as a 501(c)(3) school, while ensuring projected revenues through enrollment, managing board approved budget, and school assets.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations, audits, and reporting requirements, and school and governance policies.
  • Ensure compliance with all IRS and state nonprofit regulations, including maintaining tax-exempt status.
  • Oversee all school operations to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and alignment with the school’s mission and goals.
  • Manage facilities, technology systems, and vendor relationships to support safe and productive learning environments.

Ensure Student and Staff Safety, as well as Academic Growth

Safety, Compliance, and Risk Management

  • Oversee safety of the school at all times ensuring security and HR policy, and FERPA compliance. Work closely with local authorities, emergency responders, the school district, and community partners to develop, implement, maintain, and update a comprehensive school safety plan including emergency procedures, drills, mitigation, and crisis response strategies.
  • Address and resolve conflicts effectively while applying sound judgment and analytical thinking to identify solutions that achieve the best possible outcomes for students, staff, and the BECS’ community. 

Personnel Management

  • Oversee processes for hiring, evaluation, retention, and professional development while ensuring staff information is protected. 
  • Ensure all personnel records are maintained accurately, securely, and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., HR policies, privacy laws, labor laws).
  • Monitor adherence to HR policies and practices, providing guidance and corrective action as needed.

Create a Positive Culture

  • Understand the importance of culture; work to model and build a positive and supportive culture for all teachers, staff, students, parents, Board of Directors, and community. Build and strengthen relationships with and among the school’s constituencies, including but not limited to staff, parents, students, Board of Directors, and the community. Believe in, provide, and ensure dignity and respect to all constituents at all times, ensuring fair and equal treatment of all. 
  • Model a high level of integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness, as well as a high level of professionalism. 
  • Lead and support initiatives and model a growth mindset for teachers, staff, students, Board of Directors, and community.

Represent Bromley to the community and is a community leader.

  • Value the contribution of all employees and seek opinions of others at all levels. Sound ability to listen and be open to new ideas; work to ensure meaningful engagement and involvement with staff, parents, students, and the school community. 
  • Act as the spokesperson for education on behalf of the school community; build and maintain community partnerships; advocate and build visibility for BECS in the local and educational community.
  • Engage with the city of Brighton to create lasting and meaningful partnerships. 

Board Relations & Governance

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the board and school operations, ensuring alignment with board-defined goals and policy governance.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and transparent reports on school performance, finances, academics, and operations.
  • Support the board in strategic planning, policy implementation, and oversight functions.
  • Advise the board on emerging issues, risks, and opportunities while respecting governance boundaries.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between the board, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Operate in alignment with board policies and executive limitations, ensuring all actions and decisions support the board’s governance framework while balancing autonomy in operations.
Assist with other duties as assigned.

 Education and Experience Needed to be Successful:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field. Master’s degree in education or related field preferred; additional advanced graduate work preferred. 
  • Current Colorado Principal License, or eligible to obtain a current Colorado Principal License
  • Experience as an executive director, school principal, school leader, or other senior leadership role at an educational institution with successful administrative, finance, operations, and personnel management; five (5) years of experience preferred. 
  • Experience in education including successful development and implementation of curriculum and instruction, education programs, and student learning competencies including those required by the state; five (5) years of experience preferred. 
  • Four (4) or more years of classroom teaching experience.
  Specialized Skills:
  • Advanced understanding of current educational theories, strategies for effective teaching and learning, and special education regulations.
  • Advanced understanding of budgeting, financial planning, and fiscal management related to running a school.
  • Advanced understanding of charter school policies, topics and concerns.
  • Advanced ability to inspire, motivate, and lead teachers, staff, and students toward achieving educational excellence.
  • Expert verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with students, staff, parents, community and the Board of Education.
  • Advanced ability to assess principal and assistant principal performance and to support continued growth in leadership.
  • Advanced ability to forge partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and families to support the school's objectives and enrich student learning opportunities.
